The death toll from a tanker explosion in the Majia Local Government Area of Jigawa State has reached 153, with 100 people currently hospitalized. Initially, reports indicated that the death toll was at 105, with 70 individuals suffering various injuries.
Police spokesman DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the rise in victim numbers, noting that those who lost their lives have been buried in a mass grave, while the injured are receiving treatment at Aminu Kano, Jahun, Nguru, Hadejia, and Gumel hospitals.
Governor Mallam Umar Namadi expressed his condolences over the tragic incident. According to the latest figures from the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), 107 people have died as a result of the accident, and 57 have been hospitalized with various burn injuries. The governor urged the public to prioritize safety during emergencies and avoid gathering at accident sites to prevent further tragedies.
