Fire wrecks havoc in Ogun, burns vehicles, injures people

An early-hour morning fire outbreak from a fallen tanker loaded with premium motor spirit has destroyed many vehicles in the Ibafo area of the Obafemi Owode local government area of the state, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the tanker was suspected to have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing him to lose control, which led to the tanker’s fall and eventual explosion.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun state-owned Traffic Compliance and Enforcement, Babatunde Akinbiyi, while confirming the incident in Abeokuta said no life was lost.

The spilt content was said to have resulted in a fire that quickly spread to vehicles parked at a filling station.

Several individuals also sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The petrol spill was said to have passed through a drainage system that led to a community about one kilometre from the expressway.

The impact of the fire was evident, with several buildings suffering shattered windows, damaged roofs, and cracked walls.
