The Borno State Police Command has successfully rearrested Kyari Kur, also known as Henry, a 28-year-old convict who had escaped from a correctional facility during the recent flooding in Maiduguri.
This was confirmed by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Nahun Kenneth Daso, in a statement released on Friday, October 11, 2024. Kur was apprehended in Gubio town after a credible tip-off.
His escape had occurred during the chaos caused by severe flooding in the region, which had affected various facilities, including the correctional center.
“Kyari Kur was serving a jail term for criminal conspiracy and theft at the Medium Security Custodian Center in Maiduguri. Unfortunately, he escaped due to the devastating flood incident in September 2024, which collapsed the fence,” the statement read.

“The convict has been profiled and will be handed over to the Nigeria Correctional Service for further action.”
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Lawal Yusufu, reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and justice.
“We appreciate the public’s cooperation and urge them to continue providing timely information,” the CP said.
