PDP Governors Dare Wike To Carry Out Threat

Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have dismissed threats made by former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Wike had warned PDP governors to stay away from Rivers State’s party affairs, threatening retaliation in their states.

Wike’s comments came after the PDP Governors’ Forum called for a review of the Rivers State congress results, which had resulted in a dispute between Wike and incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary’s Response:

Ibrahim Abdullahi, the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, stated that Wike’s remarks posed no threat to the PDP, which had weathered severe challenges in the past. He emphasized that no single individual could dismantle the party.

Osun State PDP Condemns Wike’s Threats:

The Osun State chapter of the PDP criticized Wike for his statements, calling them “reckless and irresponsible.” The party urged PDP governors to support Fubara, emphasizing that he was not an outcast within the party.

Sydney Gbara, Rivers State Commissioner for Environment, called on security agencies to question Wike for his comments. He stated that such threats from an elder statesman could potentially spark a crisis in the country.

Governor Fubara Backed by Governors’ Forum:

Governor Fubara received support from the PDP Governors’ Forum, which expressed its intention to assist him in maintaining his leadership. The forum’s chairman, Bala Mohammed, had previously called for a review of the Rivers State congress results.

Mediation Attempts Fail:

Attempts by President Bola Tinubu and other prominent figures to mediate between Wike and Fubara have been unsuccessful, with both factions refusing to compromise. The dispute has led to a split in the state House of Assembly, with two Speakers representing the rival factions.
