Police To Comply With Court Orders On Rivers State LG Elections

The Nigeria Police Force has announced its commitment to comply with court orders regarding the upcoming Local Government Chairmanship Election in Rivers State, scheduled for October 5, 2024.

In a statement from SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, the force confirmed adherence to a Federal High Court ruling dated July 19, 2024.

This ruling prohibits the police and other security agencies from providing security during the election.

The compliance was further solidified by a subsequent judgment on September 30, 2024, which reiterated the ban on police and security involvement in any capacity during the elections.

In light of this, the police have urged stakeholders and political parties to act lawfully and seek legal redress if they feel aggrieved.

While withdrawing from election duties, the police reiterated their dedication to maintaining peace and order in the state.

The statement concluded by encouraging citizens to remain peaceful and cooperate with law enforcement during the electoral period.

Governor Sim Fubara has previously asserted that nothing will prevent the Local Government Election from proceeding.
