The Delta State Police Command has arrested two women, Tessi Ikechukwu and Lauretta Akomen, for allegedly stealing and selling a three-day-old baby for N2 million.
This shocking case came to light after a vigilant tricycle rider reported suspicious behavior to the authorities, prompting a swift response.
In a statement released on Thursday, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe detailed the events that unfolded on October 1, 2024.
“At around 6:30 p.m., a tricycle operator reported that while on his daily route, four women boarded his vehicle. At Efurrun Roundabout, two of the women alighted, and one handed over a newborn baby to the remaining passengers in the tricycle.

Acting on his instincts, the tricycle driver took the remaining women, Ikechukwu and Akomen, to the Ekpan Police Station, where an investigation revealed the baby had been purchased for N2 million from a traditional home in Port Harcourt that exploits teenage mothers.
Lauretta Akomen, 38, confessed to taking drugs to simulate pregnancy for the transaction. The police are currently searching for Gloria, a middlewoman involved in the case.
Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, praised the tricycle driver for his civic duty and encouraged others to follow his example.
