A significant attack on the Yoruba community in Jushi Waje, Zaria, Kaduna State, has led to the destruction of numerous homes and properties.
The violence erupted on September 29 and escalated through October 1, following an incident involving a Hausa boy who was caught allegedly stealing from a Yoruba woman’s home. Reports indicate he was beaten by community members and subsequently died after being taken to the Sarkin’s palace.
A resident recounted, “The Hausa boy was caught stealing… He was later taken to Sarkin’s palace… In the process, he gave up to the ghost. By 7pm, the Hausa youths mobilised… They burnt down houses and cars.” Many residents, fearful for their safety, have fled their homes.

Despite efforts to seek help from local authorities, calls to the Kaduna command’s PPRO, ASP Mansir Hassan, went unanswered, leaving the community feeling vulnerable and abandoned.
As tensions rise, the situation remains dire, with ongoing threats to the safety of the Yoruba and other tribes in the area.
