Sources indicate that President Bola Tinubu may not extend the tenure of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun. Egbetokun, appointed on June 19, 2022, is due to retire on September 4, 2023, upon reaching 60 years of age.
President Tinubu is reportedly considering four senior police officers for the position:
* Frank Mba, Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) and former force spokesperson
* Dasuki Danbappa Galadanchi
* Sahabo Abubakar Yahaya
* Bala Ciroma
“Frank Mba is the leading candidate as he retires in May 2027 and is a highly experienced officer,” a source said anonymously.

There has been criticism of the bill, which aims to extend the retirement age for police officers.
“Even if the bill is passed, it is unlikely to apply to IGP Egbetokun, as the President is aware of public scrutiny,” the source emphasized.
