Prison Officer Speaks On Bobrisky’s Bribery Allegation

Michael Anugwa, the Deputy Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and officer in charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kirikiri, Lagos, has denied reports of his suspension.

Anugwa’s denial comes after popular crossdresser Bobrisky, who served a four-month jail term for naira misuse, was implicated in a bribery Scandal. Anugwa’s tenure has come under scrutiny following the leak of an audio recording by social media critic VeryDarkMan.

In this recording, Bobrisky allegedly detailed how he bribed officials with N15 million to secure a more comfortable stay in a private apartment near the correctional facility.

The controversy prompted Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, to announce the suspension of Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of the Maximum-Security Custodial Centre.

However, during a session with the House of Representatives committee investigating the bribery claims on September 30, 2024, Anugwa insisted, “I wasn’t served a letter,” asserting that the reports of his suspension were unfounded.
