Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has clarified his reasons for criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s response to the #EndBadGovernance protests, which were sparked by widespread hardship and hunger.
In a meeting with the Bauchi State Executive Council (SEC), Governor Mohammed emphasized that his critique was driven by a genuine desire for the President’s success and concern for the nation’s welfare.
“I spoke constructively as an opposition figure and as someone who genuinely wants the best for the President, the government, and the people of Nigeria,” he clarified. “My intention was not to create discord or offend anyone.”
Governor Mohammed had previously expressed concern that President Tinubu’s policies had exacerbated poverty and suffering among Nigerians. He also criticized the President’s August 4th address, which he described as “very empty” and lacking reassurance.
In response to his comments, several political figures in Bauchi State, including former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, and current Senator Shehu Buba, criticized the governor for his stance.
However, during the SEC meeting, Governor Mohammed clarified that his statements were intended as a wake-up call for both the federal and state governments to address the pressing concerns of citizens.

Governor Mohammed emphasized that it is not sufficient to solely blame the Federal Government for the nation’s challenges, as state governments also bear responsibility.
“We are not solely blaming the Federal Government; we must also critically assess ourselves at the state level, ensuring that we take actions that directly benefit our people by putting food on the table and alleviating their burdens,” he stated.
“Although we may not control national policies, as loyal federalists, we must effectively implement them while also addressing our own local challenges.”
Governor Mohammed stressed that his remarks were not intended to be partisan or directed solely at the Federal Government, but rather a call for all leaders, including governors, to embrace their responsibilities.
He expressed his gratitude to the council members for their support and camaraderie.
