Jimi Lawal, a former Special Adviser to ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, is currently in custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The arrest stems from allegations of fraudulent activities in the implementation of the N11 billion Light Rail Project.
According to SaharaReporters, Lawal is undergoing interrogation at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja. Investigations have revealed that a contract file for the project was allegedly missing, despite full payment being made.
Lawal, who appeared before ICPC investigators on Wednesday, was confirmed to be in their custody by the commission’s spokesperson, Demola Bakare. Bakare stated that Lawal would be released upon meeting his bail conditions.

In a letter dated August 12, the ICPC scheduled Lawal’s interview for Wednesday after he requested a rescheduling due to nationwide protests.
