The Elders Forum of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a formal apology to Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, regarding the ongoing tensions between him and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
This apology was made during the Rivers State Ijaw Peoples Congress held on Saturday. Boma Iyaye, Executive Director of Finance at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), led the delegation of Ijaw elders, who expressed their regret over the “bitter back-and-forth” between Wike and Fubara.
The elders acknowledged the political strife that has plagued the state for over a year, stemming from a fallout between Wike, the former governor, and Fubara, who succeeded him.
The elders stated, “On behalf of our people, we are apologising to you for what our son is doing to you. We are sorry. We are sorry o, because it is not in our nature to pay evil for good.

Wike’s discontent with Fubara has been public, particularly following comments he made in a recent interview. He declared, “I will never support Fubara in my political life again.” Wike criticized the governor for misrepresenting his requests and for failing to acknowledge the sacrifices made to elevate him to his current position.
He remarked, “You turned it; that I am asking for N50 billion, N100 billion. You turned up lies against me; I brought you up and put you here.”
The situation continues to attract attention, with figures like President Bola Tinubu previously intervening without resolving the conflict. The elders’ apology reflects a desire to mend relations and reaffirm the Ijaw community’s support for Wike.
