The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said the Governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, has become an accomplice by getting involved in the ongoing case between the commission and former governor of the state, Yahaya Bello.
Bello is wanted by the EFCC for allegations of money laundering to the tune of N110b. Speaking on Arise TV on Monday, EFCC’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said Governor Ododo has constantly stepped in the way of justice, alleging that Bello is currently hiding at the Kogi state government house.
Uwujaren said Bello’s appearance at their office was a mere publicity stunt, orchestrated to make it seem as though he presented himself before the commission, which was not the case.
“Former governor Yahaya Bello had an opportunity to present himself before Justice Nwite at the Federal High Court but he failed to do so.
“He failed to comply with the directive of the Court of Appeal which mandated him to present himself before Justice Nwite in respect of his appeal.
“That exposes the insincerity of Yahaya Bello in appearing at the car park of the EFCC on September 18.
“Before Yahaya Bello arrived, he had already sent out media information that he had presented himself before the EFCC and that he had been detained. At the time the information got across, he was not even on our premises....Read Full Article [Click Here>]
“That showed he had a game plan which was not a matter of submitting himself to the commission and it can only be revealed by him,” he said.
Uwujaren added, “From our review, it was a case of Governor Usman Ododo turning himself into an accomplice, in a crime he probably knows nothing about.
“All this while Yahaya Bello has been dodging EFCC and stalling proceedings, he has been dodging in the government house in Lokoja.
“When we made a first attendant to arrest him, it was the game governor that took him away.
“I am sure his minders have told him that he will probably be liable for prosecution for obstructing justice and I believe that was the reason the governor rushed Yahaya Bello to our car park and started taking pictures.” the EFCC spokesman said.
Uwujaren added that the commission later made an attempt to pick Bello up at the Kogi state governor’s lodge, but was unsuccessful as the governor once again whisked him away from there.
