The Nigerian Senate has entered a closed-door session to deliberate on the potential removal of Justice Danladi Umar, Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
The session, which took place during a plenary presided over by Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio, followed a motion moved by Senate Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele.
In the motion, Bamidele referenced Section 157(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) to support the removal of Justice Umar. To ensure a smooth and impartial discussion, a source within the Senate indicated that a closed-door session was necessary to address certain concerns before opening the Chamber for public debate.
According to the Constitution, the removal of a CCT Chairman requires a two-thirds majority vote from both chambers of the National Assembly. Should the removal proceed, it would clear the way for Abdullahi Usman Bello to be appointed as the new substantive Chairman, as outlined in the motion obtained by DAILY POST.
