On Wednesday, Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) founder and journalist Fisayo Soyombo responded to a police invitation at the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCC) in Abuja.
Arriving at 9:00am, Soyombo was accompanied by the company’s lawyer. Known for his investigative reports exposing societal injustice and corruption, Soyombo had been declared wanted by the police for his impactful reporting.
In a Facebook post, Soyombo expressed his determination, stating that if no news was received from him, it would indicate his detention by the police.

Daniel Ojukwu Daniel, another FIJ journalist, was arrested in Lagos on May 1 and transferred to Abuja on May 5. He was interrogated at the NPF-NCCC for alleged cybercrime violations following a petition by Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, former President Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Sustainable Development Goals.
Ojukwu was detained for nine days at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) with limited access to medical care and legal representation. His release was secured through the intervention of civic actors and human rights activists.
