BREAKING: Millions At Stake As Boat Capsizes In Delta

Goods worth millions have been destroyed after a boat Capsized in Delta State. According to reports, the incident was said to have happened around 2:30pm at the Onu-Utu junction along the Onuaboh River in the Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State.

Confirming the incident, the chairman of the Marine Boat Association of Osuofia Ward, Chief Umu-Aka noted that the boat, which was named Ogbue Umu-Oshele was on its way to the Iselegu market when it capsized.

He added that although many goods were lost, no casualties were recorded.

“We immediately dispatched speed boats, barges, and open boats to save lives and recover the remaining goods. Unfortunately, not everything could be salvaged,” he lamented.

According to a member of the rescue team, who pleaded anonymity, the boat, which often carries over 200 people capsized due to the strong oceanic current.

He also identified two injured victims – Mrs. Ehechi Emeluwe, a trader, and Mr. Eugene Ike. Other injured passengers, including a boat worker, have yet to be identified, but all lives were saved after a three-hour rescue effort.

 

Residents have also called on the government to take action in improving the safety of transportation for traders.
