The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended Iwuagwu Ikedi Victory, a 26-year-old businessman, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos, for allegedly attempting to import and export a synthetic strain of cannabis.
The arrest occurred on Thursday when NDLEA operatives intercepted Iwuagwu, who had arrived from Brazil via Addis Ababa on an Ethiopian Airlines flight.
According to a statement from Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy for the NDLEA, a body scan conducted on the suspect indicated that he had ingested illicit drugs. The anti-narcotic agency further disclosed that Iwuagwu confessed to having ingested 30 wraps of the synthetic cannabis in Brazil but managed to excrete 29 pellets in Addis Ababa. He revealed that he handed over the drugs to another individual in Addis Ababa and was promised a payment of N2.5 million for successfully trafficking the substance.
The NDLEA remains committed to combating drug trafficking and has intensified its efforts at major transit points to prevent the smuggling of illegal substances into Nigeria.
