Monday Sit-At-Home Turns Bloody As Gunmen Kill 4 Vigilante Personnel, Set Vehicle Ablaze In Anambra Community

This week’s Monday Sit-at-Home order in Anambra State turned tragic as gunmen attacked the Ukpo Dunukofia Local Government Area, killing three members of the Community Vigilante Services (AVS). The gunmen struck early in the morning, shooting the vigilantes and setting their operational vehicle on fire before fleeing the scene. Seven others were also injured in the attack.

In another incident at Abatete, located in Idemili North Local Government Area, gunmen opened fire, allegedly resulting in one death. An eyewitness described the attack at Ukpo, stating that the gunmen arrived at the roundabout, shooting sporadically and chanting “No Biafra, No Freedom.” They targeted a Sienna bus carrying AVS members, leading to the deaths of three personnel. Among the survivors were a man suspected to be the President General of Ukpo town and a vigilante member, both of whom sustained bullet wounds but narrowly escaped death.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident. He stated that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ukpo is on the ground to investigate the matter and is awaiting further reports.
