Donald Trump, the President-elect of the United States, has confirmed his plans to declare a national emergency in order to fulfill his campaign promise of mass deportations of migrants living in the country without legal permission.
Trump made this statement in response to a social media post by Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch, who earlier this month reported that the incoming administration was preparing such a declaration and considering the use of “military assets” for deporting migrants, according to ABC News.
“TRUE!!!” Trump wrote on X in response.
The President-elect has vowed to begin mass deportations on his first day in office. During a rally at Madison Square Garden in the final days of the presidential race, Trump declared, “On Day 1, I will launch the largest deportation program in American history to get the criminals out.”
He went on to say, “I will rescue every city and town that has been invaded and conquered, and we will put these vicious and bloodthirsty criminals in jail, then kick them the hell out of our country as fast as possible.”

Among his proposals are mass deportations, reversing Biden administration policies on education, overhauling the federal government by removing potentially thousands of federal employees he believes are working against him, and granting pardons to individuals arrested for their involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
Trump also indicated that he plans to issue pardons to those arrested during the Capitol riot. Additionally, he expressed a desire to “drill, drill, drill” and close the borders.
“I want to close the border, and I want to drill, drill, drill,” Trump stated about his Day 1 plans.
When Trump assumed office in 2017, he also outlined an ambitious agenda, including renegotiating trade deals, deporting migrants, and tackling government corruption. However, many of these plans were not realized immediately.
Trump has also expressed that, if re-elected, he would fire Jack Smith, the special counsel overseeing two federal cases against him, “within two seconds” of taking office.
