Ukraine has confirmed the return of 563 soldiers’ bodies from Russian authorities, representing one of the most substantial exchanges of military remains since the conflict began in 2022.
The remains, primarily of troops killed in combat in the eastern Donetsk region, were repatriated through joint coordination between Ukraine and Russia. The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War shared details of the exchange on social media, noting that 320 bodies came from the Donetsk area, including 89 soldiers who died near Bakhmut, the town that fell to Russian forces in May 2023 following heavy fighting.
