The Bauchi State Police Command has detained a 20-year-old woman, Rakiya Ya’u, over the alleged murder of her father-in-law, Damina Lamba. Rakiya reportedly claimed that her father-in-law practiced witchcraft, which she believed led to the death of her son.
During a press briefing on Friday, November 1, 2024, at the command headquarters on Yandora Road in Bauchi, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, provided details of the case.
The commissioner reported that two individuals, Abdu Lamba and Ruwa Aliyu, were also arrested in connection with the murder of Damina Lamba. His body had been discovered in a bush area between Wuro Dangogo and Sarma village on October 25, showing signs of violence.
“On the 25th of October, 2024, a motionless body of one Damina Lamba of Wuro Dangogo via Sarma village was found in a bush between Wuro Dangogo and Sarma village and a mark of violence was found on his head,” CP Muhammad explained.

According to the police, a swift investigation was launched to identify those responsible for the killing. Three suspects were subsequently arrested on October 30, 2024.
“The suspects are: 1. Abdu Lamba, male, age 20; 2. Ruwa Aliyu, male, age 22; and 3. Rakiya Ya’u, female, age 20, all residents of Wuro Dangogo hamlet in Sarma ward.”
During their interrogation, both Abdu Lamba and Ruwa Aliyu reportedly admitted to their involvement in the crime and stated that Rakiya Ya’u had hired them to kill Damina, citing her belief in his involvement in witchcraft, which she blamed for her son’s death the previous year.
“Additionally, two sticks, reported to be used in perpetrating the crime, were recovered as evidence,” added CP Muhammad.
