Kidnapped Kaduna Doctor Regains Freedom After Being Held Captive For 10 Months

Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, a resident medical doctor at the National Eye Centre in Kaduna State, has regained her freedom after being held captive by bandits for 10 months following her abduction in December 2023.

Popoola, a Registrar in the Department of Ophthalmology at the National Eye Centre, was kidnapped along with her husband, Nurudeen Popoola, a military officer, and her nephew, Folaranmi Abdul-Mugni.

Initially, the abductors demanded a ransom of N40 million, which was paid. Her husband was subsequently released on March 8, 2024, but Dr. Popoola and her nephew remained in captivity.
