In a shocking incident early Saturday morning, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) was killed in Agege, Lagos, while responding to a road accident involving a truck and an Okada rider. The officer, whose identity has not yet been released, was part of a police team dispatched to the WEMCO junction by Mobil Road around 1:40 AM.
According to reports, the police arrived to assist with the evacuation of the truck that had struck the rider. However, tensions quickly escalated when a crowd of Okada operators gathered, demanding that the truck be set ablaze.
As the situation intensified, the mob launched an unprovoked attack on the police officers, resulting in the tragic death of the ASP. Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the incident, labeling the attack as both unprovoked and tragic.

Hundeyin further explained that upon the police team’s arrival, they were confronted by a large group of motorcycle riders who resisted the truck’s evacuation. During the altercation, the ASP sustained a severe head injury and died at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the truck managed to escape unharmed.
In the aftermath, five suspects have been arrested, and a manhunt for additional individuals involved in the attack is underway. The Lagos State Police Command continues to urge the public to maintain peace and cooperate with law enforcement during emergencies.
