French football giant PSG has responded to Kylian Mbappe after he seemingly accused his former club of being involved in spreading rape allegations he has labeled as “baseless” and “fake.”
Local media reports indicate that Mbappe faced accusations of rape and sexual harassment during a stay at a Swedish hotel last week.
On Monday afternoon, Mbappe addressed the reports on X, stating, “FAKE NEWS! It’s becoming so predictable, just before the hearing as if by chance,” accompanied by a winking face emoji. This remark appears to target PSG amidst his ongoing payment dispute with the Ligue 1 club.
The French superstar is pursuing nearly £50 million in unpaid wages and bonuses after leaving PSG for Real Madrid this summer. A meeting involving Mbappe, PSG, and the appeals committee is scheduled for Tuesday.
PSG has reacted strongly to Mbappe’s comments. A source close to the club told RMC Sport, “It’s a shame. We will keep our class and our dignity. PSG is responsible for everything with him. He didn’t score any goals (apart from penalties) for Madrid? It’s PSG. He missed the French national team matches… even though he says he did, but he’s not injured? It’s PSG. Mbappe was in Sweden after being omitted from France’s national team for the current international break due to a recent injury. France manager Didier Deschamps explained that the decision was made as a precaution to avoid further fitness issues.
In response to the accusations in Sweden, Mbappe’s entourage issued a statement promising legal action to clear his name. They stated to AFP, “Today, a new slanderous rumour begins to set the web ablaze, starting from the Swedish media Aftonbladet. These accusations are totally false and irresponsible, and their propagation is unacceptable. In order to put an end to this methodical destruction of (Kylian Mbappe’s) image, all necessary legal actions will be taken to reestablish the truth and pursue any person or media involved in the moral harassment and defamatory treatment that Kylian Mbappe repeatedly suffers.”
While the statement did not implicate PSG in the allegations, Mbappe’s post may further strain his relationship with the club. He left PSG on a free transfer after his contract expired at the end of last season, moving to Madrid, where he claims he is owed around £50 million. The LFP, the governing body of French professional football, previously ruled that PSG must pay this amount in connection with the dispute.
