Imo Police Break Up Notorious Armed Robbery Syndicate, Neutralize One Suspect

Operatives from the Imo State Police Command successfully dismantled a notorious armed syndicate that had been terrorizing residents of Owerri North local government area on Tuesday.

Henry Okoye, the Command’s spokesperson, reported that at 3:20 AM, a patrol team from the Owerri North Divisional Headquarters responded to a distress call regarding an armed robbery on Dominion Street.

Upon their arrival, the police were met with gunfire from the robbers, but the superior firepower of the Imo State Police led to the neutralization of one suspected criminal.

He stated: “Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have dismantled a notorious armed robbery syndicate terrorising the residents of Owerri North LGA.

“On October 15, 2024, at approximately 3:20 AM, a patrol team from the Owerri North Divisional Headquarters responded swiftly to a distress call about an armed robbery on Dominion Street near Don Kay, in Owerri North LGA. Upon arrival, the police encountered armed robbers who opened fire on them.

“The officers, demonstrating bravery, manoeuvred into strategic positions and effectively returned fire.

“During the confrontation, one suspect was neutralised, while another sustained a gunshot injury and was arrested. The remaining gang members fled into the bushes. A double-barrel gun and seven rounds of live cartridges were recovered from the arrested suspect.”
