Enugu Police Begin Investigation As Man Dies From Gunshot Fired By ‘Security Agents’

The Commissioner of Police for Enugu State, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State CID, to initiate a thorough investigation into the alleged shooting and murder of one Smith Odinaka, a male, on October 13, 2024, at approximately 1 a.m. The incident took place near the Mercedes-Benz Company along the Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway.

A statement from the command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, indicates that preliminary findings reveal the victim was driving a Mercedes-Benz with two male friends when a gunshot, reportedly fired by individuals believed to be security agents, hit the vehicle. Smith Odinaka suffered a gunshot wound to his left hip. Ndukwe noted that, contrary to circulating rumors, the ongoing investigation has not yet established any connection between the crime and any police officer or team. He emphasized that a comprehensive investigative effort is in progress to uncover the truth, and the findings will be made public once they are available.
