NSCDC Arrests Five Illegal Security Guards, Seizes Three Guns in Anambra

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State has apprehended five individuals suspected of being illegal private security guards.

The arrests occurred at an unlawful roadblock in Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area, where the suspects were reportedly extorting money from motorists, creating significant hardship for road users. Commandant Maku Olatunde shared details of the operation during a press briefing in Awka on October 4, 2024.

According to Superintendent Okadigbo Edwin, the operation was prompted by credible intelligence regarding the suspects, who were identified as Ekene Erigaka (27), Emeka Eze (28), Ugoma Prosper (20), Obiuto Eze (42), and Victor Nnadi (34). Olatunde noted, “Preliminary investigation reveals that this kind of illegal checkpoint can facilitate robberies, extortions, abductions, and the targeted killings of civilians and state actors.”

Olatunde commended the Private Guards Company Department for their swift action, stating, “This is a strong message that unlicensed security outfits will not be tolerated.”

He urged the public to report any suspicious activities, reaffirming NSCDC’s role in regulating private security companies to address Nigeria’s growing security challenges.
