The House of Representatives has granted President Bola Tinubu’s request to refund approximately ₦24 billion to the governments of Kebbi and Nasarawa states for the construction of two airports now under federal control.
In a letter dated May 16, 2024, addressed to House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Tinubu requested the reimbursement of ₦15 billion to Kebbi State and ₦9 billion to Nasarawa State for the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi and Lafia Cargo Airport, respectively.
The letter noted that the Federal Executive Council approved the reimbursement via promissory notes during its meeting on May 23, 2023.
Following this approval, Kebbi State will receive ₦15.14 billion, while Nasarawa State is set to receive ₦9.54 billion.

In a related development, Tinubu’s administration has secured a $500 million loan from the World Bank to implement the Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria (SPIN) project, aimed at addressing climate change impacts.
Chakib Jenane, Regional Director at the World Bank, announced this during a meeting in Abuja, emphasizing that the project will benefit around 950,000 individuals, including farmers and livestock producers.
The project is scheduled to begin in January 2025, with Nigeria urged to meet all necessary conditions by then.
