Innocent Boy Tortured Over Missing N200,000 Church Donations

Aondoakaa Yarkwan, a 14-year-old boy, has bravely shared his traumatic experience of torture after being falsely accused of stealing over N200,000 in church donations from St. Joseph Parish in Korinya, Benue State.

This incident unfolded following a thanksgiving service on September 8, 2024, where the congregation generously contributed funds. Yarkwan, tasked with securing these donations, was unjustly blamed when the money went missing and was replaced by scraps of paper.

Church officials and local quasi-security personnel brutally beat Yarkwan into unconsciousness before the true thief, a 12-year-old altar boy, was identified weeks later.

Yarkwan recalled, “I was interrogated and taken to the Parish Priest, Rev. Father Emmanuel Doki. When I explained what happened, he slapped me three times, demanding I confess.” Although he admitted to taking only N3,000, he denied any involvement in the larger theft....Read Full Article [Click Here>]

Describing the horrors he faced, Yarkwan revealed how church chairman Mr. Tartsegha, along with Catechist Kumbur and Deacon Agber, flogged him with a ‘koboko’ (horsewhip) and handed him over to the Livestock Guards, a local security unit.

“They took me to a forest in Korinya called Golgotha, where they normally burn thieves alive,” he said.
