Iran launched a significant missile attack on Israel on Tuesday evening, targeting the country in retaliation for Israeli military actions against Iran-backed militants in Lebanon.
The Iranian military stated, “A short while ago, missiles were launched from Iran towards the State of Israel.” Reports confirmed that sirens blared across Israel, with explosions heard over Jerusalem.
Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, claimed responsibility for the missile strike, specifically aiming at Tel Aviv, Israel’s commercial center.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps indicated that the assault was a direct response to the recent killings of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, the latter of which was linked to a bombing in Tehran.
