As the October 5 local government elections draw near, Justice Ekaete Obot, Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, has officially sworn in a 15-member Local Government Election Petitions Tribunal.
This tribunal consists of five representatives from each of the state’s three senatorial districts. The inauguration occurred at the Chief Judge’s Chambers, where Justice Obot emphasized the significance of the tribunal’s work.
In a statement released to the press, Justice Obot noted, “Pursuant to Sections 43 and 45 (1) of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission Law 2024 (as amended), the Local Government Election Petitions Tribunal for each of the Senatorial Districts has been constituted.”

Justice Obot highlighted the critical role of local government elections, describing them as “the anchor of the whole electoral system.”
The tribunal members include George Ituen, Esq. (Chairman), Comfort Gladstone, Esq., and others for the Uyo Senatorial District, alongside members for the Eket and Ikot Ekpene districts.
