The Southwest zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed claims of two factional state chairmen emerging from separate congresses held over the weekend in Ogun State.
The assertion has been labeled as “misleading” by National Vice Chairman Ajisafe Toyese and Publicity Secretary Sanya Atofarati.
In separate interviews, Toyese emphasized that the congress organized by the caretaker committee, which resulted in the election of Abayomi Tella, was supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and recognized by the PDP National Working Committee (NWC). Atofarati supported this view, stating that while the party acknowledges diverse interests within Ogun PDP, claims of dual factional chairmen are “not only wrong, but also misleading.” This response follows reports of factionalism, as some stakeholders have defected, alleging that Ajisafe is favoring Adebutu. In contrast, Adebutu’s spokesperson, Afolabi Orekoya, insisted their congress was duly recognized by the NWC and witnessed by INEC.
