A gas explosion severely injured two people at the home of Abdulkareem Haruna, a journalist with HumAngle, in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Monday morning.

The incident, caused by a faulty gas cylinder, occurred while the family was preparing for a newborn baby’s naming ceremony. Tragically, a newborn baby was caught in the blast and is now in a coma.

Conflict reporter Zagazola Makama provided additional insights via social media, describing the chaotic scene. “In a tragic incident this morning, a sudden gas explosion occurred at the residence of journalist Abdulkareem Haruna, sending shockwaves through the neighborhood,” he wrote.

The explosion “tore through the kitchen as family members were preparing for the naming ceremony,” leaving two individuals seriously injured.

Makama urged the public to support Haruna and his family during this difficult time, calling for prayers for the recovery of the injured, particularly the newborn.
