BREAKING: FCT Police Announce Traffic Diversions For Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day Amid Protests

The FCT Police Command has announced traffic diversions throughout Abuja in anticipation of Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary on October 1st.

This year’s celebration coincides with the #FearlessInOctober protests, a continuation of the previous #Endbadgovernance demonstrations held nationwide from August 1 to 10.

SP Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the command, detailed the measures in a statement issued Monday.

The deployment will include Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) personnel, anti-riot equipment, and enhanced visibility policing. The statement emphasized that “traffic diversions will be implemented in areas expected to experience large crowds, including Central Area and Eagle Square.”

In light of the protests, the police urge residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

This proactive approach aims to balance the celebration of independence with public safety concerns, ensuring that the day is commemorated without incident while addressing the ongoing call for accountability in governance.
