Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has officially joined the G-5 faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by former Rivers State Governor and current Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike.
This political move occurred on Saturday, as Fintiri attended a grand reception organized by the Rivers Ijaw Peoples Congress in Wike’s honor, alongside Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and other former G-5 members.
This development follows Fintiri’s public endorsement of Ambassador Umar Damagun as the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, a close ally of Wike.
This endorsement comes amid ongoing internal strife within the party and criticism of the current National Working Committee. Notably, Fintiri and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar hail from the same state, with Atiku opposing Damagun’s leadership.
The G-5, known as the Integrity Group, originally included Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Nyesom Wike (Rivers). They collectively rejected Atiku’s presidential candidacy in 2023, advocating for a rotational presidency that promotes inclusivity.
