Edo State Governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, has expressed willingness to collaborate with opposition parties if they present “beautiful” and “acceptable” ideas for the people.
His statement comes amid calls from former Governor Adams Oshiomhole for the World Bank to investigate the current Governor, Godwin Obaseki, regarding the use of its $75 million fund for the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation.
After winning the election with 291,667 votes against Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, who received 247,274 votes, Okpebholo urged his opponents to accept the election outcome and look forward to future cycles. Oshiomhole, excited about the APC reclaiming the state, criticized Obaseki’s handling of educational funds, claiming, “He left Edo worse.” He emphasized that Okpebholo’s role is vital in restoring integrity and improving education in the state.
He encouraged the opposition to support the new government, asserting, “In a genuine democracy, there is no loser.” Oshiomhole believes that if Okpebholo delivers on his promises, everyone will benefit from effective governance.
