Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has lost his local government area to Monday Okpebholo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the September 21, 2024, governorship election.
According to ChannelsTV, Obaseki, who is from the Oredo Local Government Area, had strongly supported Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election.
The results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday reveal that the APC garnered 30,780 votes, while the PDP secured 24,938 votes.

Edo State is among the eight states holding off-season governorship elections due to legal disputes. INEC reports that there are 2,629,025 registered voters across 4,519 polling units in Edo, with 2,249,780 (85.57%) possessing Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) to elect the next governor.
Although 17 candidates are in the race, analysts see it as a contest primarily among Ighodalo, Okpebholo, and Akpata, with the APC maintaining strongholds in the state.
