On Saturday evening, Ahmed Abubakar, Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), submitted his resignation letter to President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.
Abubakar stated that his resignation was motivated by personal and family reasons. He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve for 15 months of the current administration, having held the position since 2018.
When asked about his reasons for resigning, Abubakar responded, “There are various factors that can contribute to such a decision, including personal and family matters. However, none of these are particularly concerning, and our friendship will continue.”

“It is customary to brief Mr. President on current events and security issues, and today was no different,” Abubakar explained. “After the briefing, I presented my resignation, which Mr. President graciously approved.”
“I want to express my sincere appreciation to Mr. President for allowing me to serve Nigeria under his exceptional leadership for an extended period of 15 months, an honor that is seldom bestowed,” Abubakar concluded.
