The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) reported plan to field former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate in 2027.
APC National Director of Publicity Bala Ibrahim told Punch that the opposition’s move is a sign of desperation. He warned that if Jonathan accepts the PDP’s offer, he will face another electoral defeat.
“The APC defeated him when he was in power. Defeating him when he’s out of power will be a walkover,” Ibrahim said.
He emphasized that the APC is not concerned about Jonathan’s potential candidacy, stating that the party has no reason to be “jittery.”

“The truth is that the APC defeated Goodluck Jonathan when the President (Tinubu) was the leader of the party,” he said. “The APC will defeat him again now that Tinubu is the President.”
Ibrahim emphasized that the APC will present a strong candidate in 2027 and that the people will support the party’s choice.
“It is too early to start discussing this. But you know politicians for who they are,” he said. “They always want to heat up the politics so that they keep seeing things as relevant.”
