Traders at Kara Market Face 100-Day Ultimatum for Relocation

The Ogun State government has issued a 100-day ultimatum to traders at Kara Market in Isheri, giving them until December 31 to relocate to the Ogere International Market.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Sam Oyeleye, stated that the move aims to restore order and sanitation in the area due to the environmental degradation caused by the market’s proximity to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Oyeleye emphasized the numerous reports of improper waste disposal and open defecation in the market, despite the availability of public toilets. He warned that the government will not tolerate such practices, which pose health risks to residents.

The government has assured cow sellers and other traders of adequate security and a welcoming environment in their new location. The relocation will be carried out in phases to allow for a gradual transition.
