Hon. Obi Aguocha, a Labour Party (LP) Lawmaker representing Umuahia/Ikwuano Federal Constituency, has strongly condemned Deputy Speaker Ben Kalu’s claim that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will seize control of Abia State in 2027.
Aguocha accused Kalu of “desperate and brazen display of political ambition” and challenged him to openly declare his governorship aspirations instead of “hiding behind his position.” He further slammed Kalu for “disrespecting and denigrating” Governor Alex Otti and lacking the audacity to declare the governor’s seat vacant in 2027.
Aguocha’s response followed a viral video in which Kalu vowed to capture the governorship seat for the APC in 2027. The LP Lawmaker revealed that Kalu’s camp has been boasting about his chances of securing the APC ticket, despite concerns about his political structure and ability to defeat Otti.
Aguocha praised Otti’s achievements, including tackling ghost workers, investing in infrastructure, education, and health, and his goal of transforming Aba into “the Taiwan of Africa.” He advised Kalu to focus on his legislative duties and constituents rather than engaging in “pugnacious instability.”
The LP Lawmaker assured Abians that they will reward Otti for his achievements in 2027 and warned Kalu that there is “no vacancy” in Abia State in 2027. He also reminded Kalu that the Labour Party won the Bende Federal Constituency (Kalu’s constituency) in 2023 and could declare that seat vacant again....Read Full Article [Click Here>]
Aguocha’s statement emphasized that while he appreciates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s signing of the Southeast Development Commission Act, he cautioned against using it to justify political ambitions. He urged Kalu to demonstrate humility and unity rather than constantly invoking Tinubu’s name.
The LP Lawmaker concluded by advising Kalu to consider alternative political projects if he finds his current position insufficient.
