The Movement for National Reformation (MNR) has urged President Bola Tinubu to reinstate the 1963 constitution and abolish the current 1999 constitution. This appeal, made at a press conference in Abuja, is based on the belief that the 1963 constitution reflects national unity and provides a legitimate framework for governance.
According to Dr. Samuel Adai Onimisi, MNR’s national vice chairman, “the 1963 constitution was the federal constitution bequeathed to Nigeria by its founding fathers.” He argues that restoring and amending it “will provide a stable legal and social context for resolving systemic issues within our polity.”
Condemnation of #EndBadGovernance Protests
MNR also condemned the loss of life and property during the recent #EndBadGovernance protests. Philip Idaewor, MNR’s National Secretary, expressed solidarity with the government and urged it to address citizens’ concerns promptly.

Reiterating the Importance of a Stable Constitution
MNR emphasized the importance of a stable constitution that prioritizes the security and welfare of the people. It stressed that the current 1999 constitution, which originated from a military decree, does not adequately reflect the will of the people.
The MNR believes that restoring the 1963 constitution, with necessary contemporary amendments, will strengthen national unity and provide a solid foundation for resolving the structural problems facing Nigeria.
