Presidential Agreement on Gulf of Guinea Pipeline Project

In Malabo on Wednesday evening, President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria and President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea signed an agreement on the Gulf of Guinea Pipeline Project.

Agreement Details

As outlined by presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, the agreement covers:

* Legislative and regulatory frameworks for the gas pipeline
* Establishment and operation of the pipeline
* Transit of natural gas
* Ownership of the pipeline
* General principles

Remarks by President Tinubu

During the ceremony, President Tinubu emphasized the significance of the agreement for gas exploration and job creation. He also highlighted discussions with President Mbasogo on:

* Employment generation
* Food security
* Multilateral relations
* Conflict resolution mechanisms in Africa

Remarks by President Mbasogo

President Mbasogo expressed satisfaction with the long-standing bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea. He emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation in key areas. Mbasogo also emphasized Africa’s pursuit of a permanent seat on the UN Security Council and Equatorial Guinea’s commitment to work with Nigeria to achieve this goal.

The agreement was signed on behalf of Nigeria by Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Yusuf and on behalf of Equatorial Guinea by Foreign Affairs Minister Simeon Oyono Esono.
