“Obasanjo introduced corruption to N’Assembly” — Kano Senator alleges

Senator Sumaila Kawu of Kano South has alleged that former President Olusegun Obasanjo is responsible for introducing corruption into the National Assembly.

Kawu made these accusations in response to Obasanjo’s recent remarks blaming members of the National Assembly for setting their own salaries and allowances.

“When it comes to corruption, it was Obasanjo who brought it into the National Assembly,” Kawu stated in an interview with ChannelsTV.

According to Kawu, who chairs the Senate Committee on Sport, he has evidence that Obasanjo and his associates bribed members of the National Assembly to amend the Constitution to allow him to run for a third term.

Meanwhile, Senate spokesman Yemi Adaramodu has challenged anyone with credible evidence to provide it, stating that the salaries and allowances of senators are fixed by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) in accordance with the Constitution....Read Full Article [Click Here>]

“The Senate only receives the salary constitutionally allocated by the RMAFC. We challenge anyone with contrary facts to present them,” Adaramodu said.

“Senators or the National Assembly do not and cannot set their own salaries. Any such claims are baseless and malicious,” he added.

Adaramodu emphasized that the National Assembly has not received any monetary favors from the Presidency.
