The National Judicial Council (NJC) has scheduled a meeting on August 16 to select the successor to outgoing Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
Justice Ariwoola is expected to retire on August 22 upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70. According to sources within the judiciary, the NJC will make a recommendation to President Bola Tinubu for the appointment of the new CJN.

The NJC has not yet submitted any names to the President, as the meeting to determine the successor has not yet taken place. The outcome of the August 16 meeting will be closely watched as it will determine the next leader of the Nigerian judiciary.
